Nghiêm Phú Phi & Kim Tước - Lệ Biển (Ocean Tears)

The song LỆ BIỂN (Ocean Tears) was written in 2004 to commemorate half a million Vietnamese who have died on their way to seek freedom, with the majority of them drowning or killed by pirates on the South China Sea or in the Gulf of Thailand.

After 14 years, counting from April 30, 1975, to June 1989, when the United Nations decided to close the Vietnamese refugee program, a total of about one million managed to reach a freedom shore. This means that about a third has lost their lives on their search for freedom, a tragic figure in the history of modern Vietnam and a black spot in the UNs history of rescue of refugees around the world.

This song, LỆ BIỂN, lyrics by Ngô Đình Vận and music by Lại Minh Thuận, was performed for the first time by Kim Tước, a soprano voice, at the end of 2004.

The piano master Nghiêm Phú Phi provided the piano accompaniment for the piece at the beginning of 2005.

Listening intently to the interpretation of the song as pre-recorded by Kim Tước, Nghiêm Phú Phi has come up with an improvised piano accompaniment, then wrote variations on it, ending with a triumphant march, wishing for freedom and justice and truth to come to Vietnam and the Vietnamese people.

Master Nghiêm Phú Phi says that LỆ BIỂN (Ocean Tears) was the only Vietnamese song that took him 37 hours to come up with the Piano Accompaniment and variations that he has recorded so as to be in harmony with the pre-recorded singing of Kim Tước.

Ca khúc Lệ Biển (Ocean Tears) được viết vào năm 2004 để tưởng niệm nửa triệu người Việt Nam chết trên đường đi tìm tự do, mà phần lớn đã thiệt mạng trên biển Đông.

Sau 14 năm kể từ 30 tháng 4 năm 1975 đến tháng 6 năm 1989 là lúc Liên Hiệp Quốc đóng lại chương trình cứu trợ người tị nạn cộng sản Việt Nam thì đã có trên một triệu người tị nạn sống sót tới được bến bờ tự do. Theo ước tính chung thì có 1/3 người tị nạn thiệt mạng, đây là một sự kiện bi thảm của lịch sử Việt Nam cũng như lịch sử cứu giúp người tị nạn của LHQ và nhiều quốc gia trên thế giới.

Ca khúc Lệ Biển (Ocean Tears) lời của Ngô Đình Vận, nhạc và hòa âm của Lại Minh Thuận được trình bày bởi giọng ca của Kim Tước được thực hiện vào cuối năm 2004.

Nhạc sư Nghiêm Phú Phi đã trình bày ca khúc này qua thể loại Piano Accompaniment vào đầu năm 2005.

Theo đó, Nhạc sư Nghiêm Phú Phi đã lắng nghe giọng hát Kim Tước đã được thu âm sẵn rồi dùng piano để phụ họa và ngẫu hứng sáng tác các biến khúc của Lệ Biển với phần kết là nét nhạc khải hoàn, cầu mong cho sự thật, công lý, tự do sẽ đến với dân tộc và quê hương Việt Nam.

Nhạc sư Nghiêm Phú Phi cho biết Lệ Biển (Ocean Tears) là một ca khúc Việt Nam duy nhất mà ông trình tấu theo thể cách Piano Accompaniment, ông phải dùng 37 giờ đồng hồ liên tục để sáng tạo, thu âm phần biến khúc của đàn piano để hòa hợp với giọng ca Kim Tước đã được thu âm sẵn.
